BME Voice and Influence

We are pleased to welcome you to Voscur's page which focuses on Black and Minority Ethnic Voice and Influence in Bristol.

Further to the BME VCS meeting on 7 June Voscur and Bristol City Council are undertaking wide consultation with BME groups and communities on how they want to be represented and have their voices heard in decision-making structures.  The outcomes will inform Voscur’s reach to BME groups in its Assembly model and the Council’s review of its current voice and influence structures including the Legacy Commission and the Race Forum.

In the autumn consultants will be engaging BME-led groups to direct their research, findings and recommendations.  For more information contact Ruth Pitter: ruth@voscur.org / 0117 909 9949 / www.voscur.org

Targeted Interventions to Raise BME Attainment Grant Funding for 2012

In 2010 Children and Young People’s Services published a commissioning plan to invest in Targeted Interventions to Raise BME Attainment.  This forms part of the Children and Young People’s Trust focus on narrowing the achievement gap for black and minority ethnic children and young people.  To date the plan has invested in a three year programme run by local partners through the Supplementary and Mainstream School Alliance.
The commissioning plan also set out the commitment to supporting smaller organisations, including supplementary schools, to contribute to raising attainment levels.  This will be delivered through a small pot of grant funding, which in 2012 is £40k in total.
The deadline for applications is noon on Friday 17th February 2012.  In order to submit an application for this funding you must download the guidance and application form from our e-procurement system, Provide to Bristol.  More details regarding eligibility can also be found on the system, under opportunity, ID number REQD1000198.  To register your organisation go to www.proactisplaza.com  For help using the system please contact providetobristol@bristol.gov.uk or 0117 92 23495.

BME Voice & Influence- Race Equality Survey

Voscur and Bristol City Council requests your feedback on how Black and Minority Ethnic people, and groups representing Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities, are able to influence the many decisions that affect our communities in Bristol.

Please see the attached surveys. There is public survey for individuals to complete, and a survey for anyone who is part of an organisation representing BME communities to complete. We would urge you to complete the relevant one, or both if applicable.  Please note individuals completing the public survey can enter a draw offering two cash prizes of £50 each.

Your views will form part of the consultation about BME Voice and Influence and will contribute to recommendations made to Voscur and Bristol City Council. This will help inform them of the best ways to enable individuals and organisations to have their voices heard, and also to establish the most appropriate decision-making structures to ensure BME voice and influence is effective.

Your opinions will ultimately influence the ways in which Voscur and Bristol City Council supports and / or provides services to you, your community, your organisation, and the wide range of communities in the city.
