This session is for people in community and voluntary groups or organisations who would like to find out how local government works, how you can be involved and influence local decision making.
By the end of the session you will:
- Have an understanding of the local government structures and processes
- Be informed about how and who you can approach to be involved in the local government structures.
- Know about the different ways you use to try and raise issues and influence local government business
This is a beginner’s session for those who would like a better understanding of local government.
Who should attend?
People who are have no or limited knowledge of Local Government but would like to find out more.
People who would like to find out more about the make up of Local Government and how it carries out its business.

This session will help you focus on Bristol City Council's pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ) and invitation to tender, as well highlighting the steps your organisation needs to take to make a successful proposal.

In the current economic climate, mergers of organisations could mean that TUPE regulations apply. The Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE) protects employees' terms and conditions when a business is transferred from one owner to another. This session will cover:

- When redundancy becomes an issue

All potential providers will be required to submit their safeguarding policy as part of PQQ. Safeguarding policies will need to comply with South West Child Protection Procedures and the Bristol City Council Baseline Standards.
This workshop is to evaluate your safeguarding policy against the expected standards and to consider how the policy is embedded within your organisation.
This is not safeguarding training and attendance at this workshop is not compulsory or a requirement of Bristol Youth Links pre-qualification to tender. If you make amendments to your policy as a result, it will be possible to submit a policy that is awaiting ratification by Trustees.
The workshop will cover

- What is child protection?
- The policy implications of the Bristol City Council Baseline Standards – safeguarding element
- Ensuring your policy is ‘active’
