Bristol Compact event
Bristol marked Compact Week 2009 with an event at the CREATE Centre on 5 November. Bringing together the Public and Third Sector to discuss a Compact way of working, over 50 delegates were addressed by 2 keynote speakers. Nick Drew from the Commission for the Compact gave an update on the Compact Refresh and Leader of the Council Cllr Barbara Janke gave a Vision for Bristol and outlined the importance of the Third Sector and the use of the Compact in meeting that vision.
Discussion groups looked at the myths, challenges and opportunities for cross sector partnerships, then took questions forward in a Question Time style session, with a panel of commissioners and voluntary sector organisations. A final session provided tools for supporting Compact compliance.
The day was well received and gave an excellent opportunity for dialogue between the sectors, focusing on how we can all take the Compact forward in our organisations and ultimately enhance services for the city.
The picture shows Chair Ben Barker (Chair of Thriving Neighbourhoods Board, Bristol Partnership) facilitating the Question Time panel, with (L-R): Jean Smith (Director, Nilaari), Sue Bandcroft (Senior Commissioning Manager, Safer Bristol), Rebecca Cross (Strategy Leader, Health and Commissioning Children and Young People's Service), Jane Taylor (Service Manager, Communities and Adult Skills, The Park Centre), Deborah Lee (Director of Commissioning, NHS Bristol)Papers from the event are availlable to download below
