Quartet Community Foundation

New Name – Same Faces

At the beginning of May Greater Bristol Foundation changed its name to Quartet Community Foundation.

This distinctive new name and logo were chosen to reflect how the scope of our work has broadened beyond ‘Greater Bristol’ in recent years to cover the four unitary authority areas of Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

We have included the words “Community Foundation” in our new name because we felt that it was important to describe what we are – a community foundation, a charity that links local donors with local needs and builds a permanent fund to help future generations. We are one of 60 community foundations around the UK which, collectively, made grants of over £53 million to local causes last year.

A little bit of history

Greater Bristol Trust, as it was then, started in 1987 and distributed its first grants in 1988 - £20,685 in total. Some of the organisations that had grants then have had grants from us this year, such as Bristol Homestart, Windmill Hill City Farm and ACTA! However, this year our grants total will be more like £2million.

Over the last 17 years we have distributed £10m in small grants to thousands of organisations across our area. We manage over 115 funds on behalf of individuals, companies, charitable trusts and statutory agencies. Groups can apply directly to about 10 of these funds, the rest are pooled together and used to fund the Express Programme.

We have a board of Trustees that oversees the whole Foundation and now have over 80 people drawn from across the community who are involved in our grant making panels.

New Website

Although we have a new name and image, for those of you who want to apply to Quartet Community Foundation, the process and the people, haven’t changed! For those of you with access to the internet, the best way to find out about what is on offer is to visit our website www.quartetcf.org.uk You will find a full list of all the funds to which you can apply as well as guidelines and application forms. These do change from time to time and we will update it regularly to give information about new funds and deadlines on current application rounds.

However, if don’t have access to the internet or just want to talk to someone, do contact us directly to discuss the needs of your organisation. That way you can be sure that you are applying to the most appropriate funds.
