Don’t Agonise, Organise!!

The ‘African Voices and Global Justice’ conference and workshops, organised by‘African Initiatives’ will raise the isolated and often ignored voices of African Diaspora communities; strengthening their skills, knowledge and opportunities to become active in global justice debates and activities; challenge negative stereotypes and ignorance of Africa, its people and environment and to have a voice on issues that affect them.

HOW CAN WE CHALLENGE THE NEGATIVE STEREOTYPES ABOUT AFRICA?

HOW CAN AFRICAN COMMUNITIES CAMPAIGN FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE IN AFRICA?

ARE AFRICAN VOICES BEING HEARD IN BRISTOL?

ARE CELEBRITIES THE TRUE VOICE OF AFRICA?

The conference will be an exciting combination of speakers, films, presentations and workshops for the African diaspora and those interested in African ideas and alternatives. Issues and topics to be covered include:
- African alternatives, heroes and campaigns
- HIV/AIDS
- UK/EU trading injustice including water privatisation and the Arms Trade
- Corruption and democracy
- Climate change and Africa
- Bristol’s links with Africa
- Land, natural resources, extraction, exploitation
- Asylum seekers and refugees
- Global Citizenship – getting African Voices into the curriculum
- opportunities to make a difference
