Funding event for community food initiatives

10 Mar 2008 - 09:30
10 Mar 2008 - 15:00

Held at The Southville Centre, Beauley Road, Southville, Bristol.

Find out how to access funding and develop partnerships for community
food initiatives, by attending this Bristol Food Links funding event.

The food we eat plays a key role in the quality of our lives. Obesity
is predicted to affect over half of adults by 2050; a third of all
cancers are attributed to diet and the NHS spends a phenomenal £6
billion each year on diet-related ill-health. This is particularly the
case for Bristol’s most disadvantaged communities. What’s more food is
accountable for a third of humans’ contribution to climate change. And
in economic terms, the livelihoods of local food businesses and small
farmers are being destroyed by our current food system that sees little
profit from food remaining in our local communities.

The Big Lottery will soon be releasing £50 million to support local
initiatives promoting healthy, sustainable food. Bristol Food Links, an
umbrella organisation aiming to support community projects across
Bristol to continue and extend their food-related work, wants to ensure
that Bristol’s community projects benefit from this funding.
