Beyond We Care Too – Putting Black Carers in the Picture - Seminar

16 Jun 2008 - 10:30
16 Jun 2008 - 15:00

Event taking place at the Cribbs Business Centre, Hollywood Tower Mansion, Hollywood Lane, Cribbs Causeway, Bristol, BS10 7TW

The notion of taking responsibility for the needs of Black and Minority Ethnic Carers (BME) should be everybody’s business. The National Black Carers & Carers Workers Network (NBCCWN) has established from substantial research that this is still not the case and that many Black carers feel marginalised.

This Seminar seeks to highlight the results from 300 in depth questionnaires completed by BME carers that were analysed. This analysis is presented in the document “Beyond We Care Too – Putting Black Carers in the Picture” available from Afiya Trust website – www.afiyatrust.org.uk

A number of presentations will be undertaken by: Lina Patel, the Chair of the NBCCWN, Professor Mark Johnson (Director of The Mary Seacole Research Centre – De Montfort University) along with a local perspective provided by Guy Stenson (Service Manager – Strategic Planning & Partnership) South Gloucester County Council and Bristol Black Carers – a Voluntary Sector Project. Representatives from the Carers Panel that was recruited for the national conference in London on the 4th March will present their stories and thoughts along with questions that they put to the Department of Health.
