Free Tour: Go behind the scenes at the Central Library
15 Jul 2008 - 10:30
15 Jul 2008 - 12:00
The tour visits all six floors of the Central Library and include a
great many stairs. Amongst things shown to visitors will be the
re-creation of the Reading Room from the 1740s library building in King
Street, (with its superb overmantel by the master woodcarver, Grinling
Gibbons), the City Librarian's office with furnishings by Holden, and
the haunted gallery. The tours include most of the book stacks and
non-public departments within the building, and are led by experienced
members of the library staff who will explain the history, art,
architecture and workings of the building. All tours last approximately
an hour and a half. Held at the Central Library, College Green, Bristol.
