"The nature of women's custody in many of our prisons needs to be radically re-thought."
The government's report by Baroness Jean Corston provides a blueprint for creating a system to meet the needs of women offenders and their families, and to reduce re-offending. Published a year ago, the report's recommendations were accepted by the government but have not been funded or implemented.
The Corston Report found that:nearly two-thirds of women in prison have a drug problem;the majority have experienced domestic violence or sexual abuse; at least 70% have mental health problems;18,000 children are separated from their mothers by imprisonment.
Come and hear Jean Corston present her recommendations for a 'radical new approach', and how we can help put these into action.
This event is promoted by Bristol Justice Network, Bristol Women's Forum and the Fawcett Society (Bristol Group)
