Arts and Health & Physical Activity: A day exploring the connections between Creativity and Physical Activity
When: 25th September 2008
Where: Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, Osprey Quay, Portland, Dorset, DT5 1SA
Time: 11am-3.00pm
This Arts & Health South West day sets out to examine the connections between creativity and physical activity, including how the arts and health sector can engage with the Cultural Olympiad.
The day includes Richard Crowe, 2012 Creative Progammer for the Cultural Olympiad in the South West who explore how the investment and activity legacy might affect the health and wellbeing of the UK through connections between culture and sport, and how it could benefit and impact on the arts and health sector.
Karen Huckvale, Art Psychotherapist with Devon Primary Care Trust's Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services and Director of Insider Art will look at Visual Art and the Body, examining ways in which art making may be used in Art Psychotherapy to extend physical activity.
Practical breakout sessions include:
* Circuit Training and Art Making! Most people make visual art by using one hand, with some wrist and elbow movement. This practical workshop uses a series of more physically active visual arts exercises to explore stretching, core stability/balance and proprioception.
* The possibilities and challenges of movement and dance work with less able people, incorporating chair-based dance, possibly with a nautical theme!
* Vocal workshop – experience how singing can improve physical wellbeing.
