Public Health Seminars - Wealth and Health, the Tensions and the Synergies
At the Pavillion, 1 Hannover Quay, Harbourside, Bristol, BS1 5JE.
The overall pursuit of goals of both wealth and health in our cities sets up tensions between these two goals.
Obviously at one end of the wealth range, when considering high levels of absolute poverty, increased wealth leads to increased health and well-being. But does this relationship hold true across all levels of wealth? What happens when it is magnified to a global scale or if we also need to allow for the needs of future generations?
In light of increasing challenges to our modern lifestyles, we need to re-examine the twin goals of wealth and health. Which one should be our ultimate objective and how can both goals be used to support an inclusive and well society.
The seminar is given by Marcus Grant, Deputy Director from WHO Collaborating Centre for Healthy Cities, who recently spoke on this subject at the Core Cities Conference in Birmingham.
