Studio Upstairs 20th Anniversary Open Studios Weekend

The first weekend in October will see thriving arts community Studio Upstairs celebrating its 20th Anniversary by throwing open its doors and inviting the public to view the abundance of artistic talent within.

With over 60 artists exhibiting in a broad range of media including painting, sculpture, drawing and creative writing, the show will demonstrate the eclectic and diverse nature of the studio. Many pieces will be for sale, at affordable prices.

This will be the 9th Open Studio and the highlight of a successful 20th year for the charity which, despite struggling financially, continues to flourish creatively. Highlights of 2008 so far have included workshops and art conversations in collaboration with other Bristol art institutions such as Arnolfini and Picture This, as well as several group and solo exhibitions.

Throughout the weekend visitors will be encouraged to get involved by creating their own piece of art, and to participate in ‘guessing the artist’ from a series of anonymous disclosures. There will also be a raffle, offering the opportunity to win an original piece of art – or even commission your own from a Studio Upstairs artist!

Studio Upstairs Bristol is a registered charity. It is a unique therapeutic community for people whose interests, abilities and talents can be expressed through the arts, yet are for various reasons unable, or actively choose not, to participate in the already existing institutions – with particular focus on those who have suffered from mental health difficulties, or are in drug and alcohol recovery.
