Fastest Reception Volunteer, Terrence Higgins Trust
Introduction to Role:
To provide a reception, registration and point of care service for individuals attending Terrence Higgins Trust’s (THT’s) testing clinic which helps service users feel comfortable whilst they wait to be seen by the clinical staff. To work as part of a team ensuring that clinics run efficiently and that clients receive a professional service.
The Type of Tasks / Activities you could be involved with:
• To open up, prepare and then close and tidy the clinic rooms, reception area and drop in at the start and end of each session
• To greet visitors to the clinic, sign them in and explain to them how the service works
• To give those attending the service a registration form and, if necessary, assist them in completing the form
• To inform clients of the test confirmation service and follow appropriate procedures as instructed
• During the registration process, to encourage clients to complete a monitoring form (assisting them to do so if necessary)
• To enter client details via the Lilie database and when available to enter sexual history records.
• To operate a fair waiting system by managing the flow of paperwork to the clinical staff
• When required, to further explain to clients about clinic procedures, the queuing system and how the test is administered
• To offer reassurance and comfort to distressed clients
• To complement the clinical staff in providing a warm, welcoming and respectful service, during what is likely to be a stressful time for individuals
• To provide additional information regarding good sexual health to clients, as appropriate, and to refer to the Health Promotion Team those who have complex concerns
Desirable Skills / Experience Sought:
• Good spoken and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
• Attention to detail and the ability to complete routine tasks reliably
• Understanding of HIV and the issues that relate to the infection, e.g. the fear and stigma associated with HIV
• Knowledge of sexually transmitted infections
• Ability to work in an environment dealing with challenging and sensitive issues
• Commitment to representing THT in a positive & constructive way
