Urban Academy Music Master-Class 2010

From Monday 30th August to Friday 3rd September the Urban Academy is running a free, week-long music master-class. It is aimed at anyone aged 14-19 who is interested in making music. The project culminates in a live performance at The Main Event, an award winning music and performing arts festival, on Saturday 4th September 2010. The week will run from 10am to 5.00pm each day and be based at the Kingswood Foundation on Britannia Road, Kingswood.

So if you sing or play any instrument or know a young person that does, the Urban Academy would love to hear from you. Over the week there is a unique opportunity to work with music industry professionals, including Thomas Brooman CBE (ex-artistic director of WOMAD) and the outstanding singer/song-writer Patrick Duff. In addition there will be some special guest tutors dropping in to share their knowledge and expertise.

The ten young musicians will create 40 minutes of original music, building up a set of songs based around stories from Kingswood’s dramatic history, from miners to highwaymen, from heroes to riots and disasters. If you want to apply to be part of this project visit: http://tinyurl.com/23jxzgq click on the What’s On page, follow the link to the Music Master-Class page and fill in the form. Alternatively call the Kingswood Foundation on 0117 947 7948 or email joe@urbanacademy.co.uk to request an application form. Places are limited, so as well as an application form, the Academy need to hear you sing or play via a recording on a CD, MySpace or MP3. Don’t panic if you don’t yet have a recording. Drop them a line to sort something out.
