Volunteering Services Manager
PURPOSE OF THE POST:
1. To promote and facilitate volunteering in Gloucestershire. Specifically, to develop high-quality volunteering opportunities through capacity-building programmes with voluntary and community organisations and to work in partnership to provide a brokerage service that matched suitable volunteers to these organisations.
2. To manage and develop Volunteering Services within GAVCA.
3. To promote the use of volunteers within GAVCA and to recruit and support appropriate volunteers within the organisation.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To work in partnership with Third Sector Services (TSS) to develop an effective and accessible countywide volunteer brokerage service, ensuring joined-up systems and procedures, and supporting TSS to promote the service and develop relationships with new partner organisations across the county.
2. To recruit, train and support a team of volunteers to provide this brokerage service from GAVCA’s office in Gloucester, providing information about volunteering opportunities, and advice and guidance to individuals wishing to undertake voluntary work.
3. To carry out outreach visits across the county, as required, for the brokerage service.
4. To support TSS to publicise this widely and undertake targeted work with identified groups to attract currently-under-represented sections of the community into voluntary activity.
3. To provide a range of opportunities for voluntary and community groups to develop their capacity to recruit, manage and retain volunteers, promoting good practice and equal opportunities including:
• One-to-one advice sessions with staff, trustees and volunteers
• Telephone and email advice service
• Regular features and information in the GAVCA newsletter and website
• Production of good practice guidance and briefings
• Forum meetings where Volunteer Managers can network and share good practice.
4. To contribute to the planning and delivery of training events as part of the county-wide training programme for voluntary and community groups, identifying common issues which can best be met through training initiatives. In particular, to deliver GAVCA’s 3-day accredited Volunteer Management Programme.
5. To promote the concept of volunteering through taking part in events, information days, and other community activities.
6. To plan, analyse, monitor and review this work and provide reports as required by the GAVCA Board and Funders.
7. To recruit volunteers as required by other colleagues within GAVCA and work with colleagues to ensure that they are adequately supported.
8 To develop collaborative links with other statutory and voluntary bodies and businesses which can assist in the capacity-building of voluntary and community groups through volunteering.
Management
9 To manage and direct the Volunteering Team and ensure that it operates in an efficient, professional and effective manner, in compliance with legislation and GAVCA policies.
10 To be responsible for the training, supervision, support, motivation and evaluation of the Volunteering Services’ staff and volunteers and work with the Chief Executive to undertake recruitment of new staff.
11 To monitor the Team’s budgets and ensure that the team operates effectively within budget: in conjunction with the Chief Executive and Finance Officer, identify new funding opportunities to further develop the work and ensure the long term sustainability and expansion of the Team..
General
12. To ensure that services are made accessible and relevant to the needs of all groups within the county. This may involve outreach work, some unsociable hours and the occasional use of interpreters. A proactive approach should be taken to ensure that those groups most in need of support are prioritised.
13 To keep abreast of developments both locally and nationally, including changes in legislation affecting volunteers.
14 To participate in the overall Staff Team, with regards to all matters that require a team approach, e.g. Strategic Planning, office procedures; and maintain a helpful and supportive approach to staff, volunteers and trustees.
15 To contribute to and comply with GAVCA policies and procedures, paying particular attention to issues of equal opportunities.
16 To report to the Line Manager through supervision/support sessions and annual appraisals.
17 To undertake professional development/training to meet developing requirements and to maintain necessary skills and knowledge to carry
