Pride of Place Award winners announced

The first Pride of Place awards celebrating the work of community groups, public and private sector partners working together in their Neighbourhood Partnerships (NP) were announced at an award ceremony in the M Shed on 27 July. Voscur and the Black Development Agency were pleased to sponsor the Stronger Communities Award.

The award recognises the NP that was successfully supporting community involvement, volunteering and working with community organisations. The winner of the Stronger Communities Awards 2011 is Avonmouth and Kingsweston Neighbourhood Partnership.

In the current climate voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations are faced with ever increasing funding demands and have to think creatively about funding their work.

This  training session will help staff or trustees, who have some experience of raising funds, to consider how they can maximise their opportunities for raising funds.

Mary Waters, an Independent Consultant, who has over 10 years' experience supporting VCS organisations with funding will lead this session.

Consultation begins on 'Community Right to Challenge' and 'Community Right to Buy - Assets of Community Value.

The government has launched consultation papers on two significant parts of its 'Big Society' policy agenda.

The Community Right to buy - Assets of Community Value would give community groups 'a fair chance to bid to take over assets and facilities that are important to them'.

The Community Right to Challenge  would give 'community and voluntary bodies, parish councils and authorities employees' the right 'to bid to take over the running of local authority services'.

Going Twice…Social Value Bill Receives Strong Support in its Second Hearing the House of Lords

The Social Value Bill has received strong support in its second reading in the House of Lords.

This private members bill, initiated by Chris White MP, was initially presented to Parliament as the Public Services (Social Enterprise and Social Value) Bill. It has attracted cross party support and is now known as the Public Services (Social Value) Bill.

Engage not Enrage: Online Donating Needs Fresh Approach

A new report by Bristol based digital agency Nemensa is calling for fresh approach in how Charities approach online giving. ‘Charities Fail to Make an Impact Online’ outlines how organisations can improve the user experience and increase the volume and value of online donations.

Nomensa, which specialises in perfecting online user experience, compared the online donation processes of Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care. The findings suggest that at present, almost half of users (47 per cent) who start an online donation fail to complete it.

Update: Worklessness funding (Flexible Support Fund)

Further to the recent news piece and event (Update: Opportunity for Worklessness funding, 11/1/12), this update aims to keep interested parties informed about developments in this funding opportunity.

Bristol City Council and Jobcentre Plus continue their discussions about the detail of the outcomes, outputs and payment schedule. We expect those details to be finalised and the application process released in the next couple of days (w/c 6 Feb 2012).
