BRISTOL, 3 OCTOBER.

In partnership with the International Affairs team at Bristol City Council

and the Bristol Festival of Ideas / Festival of the Future City

Venue: M-Shed, Princes Wharf, Wapping Rd, Bristol BS1 4RN

Date: Wednesday 3 October

Time: 8 am – 9.30 am with a small working group staying until 10 am to agree some key actions

Please join us as a key city leader in Bristol to  participate in a strategic round-table on the theme of ‘Bristol: International City of Innovation with a Global Outlook’. We are really keen to have the voice of the community and voluntary sector represented in this discussion, hence our invitation to you.

All contributions from the round-table will inform the development of the British Council’s Global Cities Strategy 2019 – 25 and our ongoing work connecting cities in the UK with cities around the world

The workshop will be hosted by Marvin Rees (Mayor of Bristol) and Kathy McArdle (Director England and Cities, the British Council)

It will be facilitated by Gerri Moriarty, and Andrew Kelly (Director, Bristol Cultural Development Partnership) will deliver some closing remarks.

You are probably familiar with the work of The British Council, the UK’s international cultural relations organisation, in arts, education and civil society – we work in 115 countries around the work connecting them with the arts, education and civil society sectors in the UK through cultural relations, and offer a range of international opportunities for people and organisations through our various projects and programmes – see here for more info: britishcouncil.org.  You will probably know of us through our role as the national agency for the Erasmus Plus programme but we also work with social enterprises around the world and in the UK to champoion the value of social enterprise internationally.

Recently, we have adopted a new focus on cities, recognising that cities are the new global force in the 21st century. We want our approach to cities to align with your strategic priorities and to help you achieve your international ambitions and plans for Bristol.

This round table will give us a chance to hear from you on these questions:

- What is the value of the connections you already have with international cities?

- What is important about your city, what do you feel other cities can learn from Bristol? Where are the special models of practice, case studies of innovation and pockets of expertise which are unique to your city that you’d be proud to share with the rest of the world ?

- How international is the outlook of your citizens (young and old)? What would you want to do to develop a more international perspective?

- What are you interested in learning from other international cities in addressing your urban challenges?

We would love you to join us for this workshop and be involved in shaping our work with you in the future.

Refreshments will be available from 7.45 am and the event will commence promptly at 8 am.
