Global Majority Educators – Teaching, Research and Academia
A celebration of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic representation in education

Join us for a two-part speaker event followed by refreshments and professional networking.

Aisha Thomas will share her journey and passion for ‘Why representation matters’ in education and for the second part of our event, Dr Jason Arday will share his personal journey into academia and research, the challenges and successes and how universities can be more inclusive. Following her success in raising awareness through the BBC Inside Out West short documentary film exploring the shortage of black teachers in Bristol, Aisha went on to deliver her celebrated TedX Talk: ‘Why Representation Matters.’

Dr Jason Arday is an Assistant Professor in Sociology at Durham University in the Department of Sociology. Jason is a Visiting Research Fellow at The Ohio State University in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, a Research Associate at Nelson Mandela University in the Centre for Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation and a Trustee of the Runnymede Trust, the UK’s leading Race Equality Thinktank. Jason sits on the Centre for Labour and Social Studies (CLASS) National Advisory Panel and is a School Governor at Shaftesbury Park Primary School in London.

This event will inspire all students, graduates & professionals to explore the value of representation in teaching, lecturing & research. In particular, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students and professionals will be inspired to be or continue to be, Global Majority Educators.
