Sense is a national disability charity that supports people with complex communication needs to be understood, connected and valued. We are here for every person who faces communication barriers in a world that relies on being able to see and hear well to be connected. Our flexible and personalised services empower people to communicate and express themselves – be it through speech or sign, touch or movement, gesture or sound, art or dance. Together, we connect differently and campaign passionately for the right to lead connected and fulfilled lives.

We are holding an open evening to introduce people to our new Buddying Programme. Whether you are interested in becoming a volunteer or think the service might be something you are interested in using, then we will be on hand to answer all of your questions.

Our new Buddying programme is aimed towards adults who have a learning disability and are looking to move towards an independent life and to access to their local community. In return for signing up, we will work with them to identify the right buddy that could support them to do a specific task or activity for 2 hours a week. This could be as simple as gaining confidence to use a particular bus route or building relationships at a social group. We will work with them to decide the best use of the time in a person-centred way so it is led by the individual to accomplish their wishes and expectations.
