What is this course about?

Theory of Change (ToC) is a very useful tool for your organisation to use to define your impact, work more effectively as a team and communicate your value to external stakeholders and funders. The course will enable you to examine a basic or draft ToC and look at how to develop its comprehensiveness and increase its effectiveness.

What will you learn?

  • What uses will we put our ToC to, and how does that effect its construction?
  • What can we add to make it more comprehensive?
  • Using data to inform your ToC
  • Evaluating and testing your ToC

Why is it this course relevant or important at the moment?

Clarifying the outputs, outcomes and the assumptions that underpin your organisation’s work is increasingly required by funders, investors and comissioners. It also helps to ensure your organisation is focusing on the areas where it can have the most impact for service users, and this is especially crucial at the moment when almost all charities and social enterprises are under pressure due to Covid and increased demand.

A clear ToC helps to ensure your group’s resources are deployed to create most social impact.  It also helps to identify potential partnerships and collaborations by highlighting where working together with other organisations could produce mutual benefits.

Who is this course for?

Staff, Trustees and volunteers with responsibility for, and knowledge of, their organisations strategic development and impact.

We are aware that many VCSE organisations in the city are focusing their efforts on providing and changing their services to respond to communities.
