Thursday 1 April, 2021 - 13:00 to 16:00
What is this course about?
It can be hard to get funding for your group, and even small bids present a challenge if you aren’t sure of the right approach. This workshop will take you through the basics from identifying the right opportunity to receiving a grant.
What will you learn?
- Identifying the right grant funding source for your group
- Checking eligibility
- Preparing to apply
- Writing a good bid
- Using evidence to support your application
- Managing your fundraising
Why is this relevant or important now?
Lots of organisations still make basic mistakes with grant applications – not demonstrating their eligibility, applying for activities a funder won’t fund, mistaking outputs for outcomes - which means funders might not even get to read about your great project before putting your bid in the bin.
This is especially true at the moment when the number of applications for every grant has increased and assessors need to work through bids quickly.
Once your bid is through the first stage, it still has to be clear, distinctive and explain what may be a difficult subject or specialist need to a non-specialist reader. This course will give you the techniques to get these basics right and present your application effectively.
Who is this course for?
People who are either new to bidwriting or who have done a little and would like additional skills

What else do you need to know?
We need some very basic information about your group - what sort of group you are, and roughly what you need to fundraise for.
To take part you will need a laptop with a camera, microphone, and Wi-Fi. You won't need any additional software. You will be emailed an invitation with a link to join the online training prior to the course.
Voscur is running all our training online due to the ongoing public health situation with coronavirus (or COVID-19). This decision was taken in line with local and national health advice, and to safeguard the health of our attendees and staff. We are aware that many VCSE organisations in the city are focusing their efforts on providing and changing their services to respond to communities. For more information about coronavirus, see https://www.voscur.org/content/covid19-service-users
If you cancel your place on a paid for training course you will need to give at least 2 weeks' notice in which case a full refund/credit note will be issued. Less than 2 weeks' notice will result in the full cost of the course being invoiced (not being refunded/credited), unless you can give the place to somebody else. If the place is transferred to someone else there may be an adjustment on payment/fee depending on their/their organisations membership status.
If you have been offered a free place, or the training you have booked is a free session: if you do not cancel giving at least 2 weeks' notice and you fail to attend (and are unable to send someone in your place) an admin fee of £25 will be charged, we will invoice you/your organisation.
