What does your organisation do?
Our knowledgeable and friendly Bristol team can help with;
Independant living
We can support you to live as independently as possible by:
•Our new Living with Sight Loss Course – a six-week course which introduces Action for blind People & RNIB services:
Applying for benefits
The majority of people with sight loss do not receive all of the benefits they are entitled to. Action provides specialist advice on what’s available and can assist you with the completion of relevant claim forms. We can also help with reviews, appeals and tribunals.

Befriending
We have a team of volunteers who offer a befriending service to support socially isolated people who live within Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Our volunteers support people with simple tasks in their home; opening mail, having a chat, going for a walk.

Technology
We provide technical advice and guidance for blind and partially sighted people who wish to discuss IT issues and computer queries. We host IT drop-in days every 3rd Friday of each month: one to one sessions to help you with screen magnification, screen reading and other IT support. Please call reception to book.

Employment
Our employment service includes helping blind and partially sighted people prepare for employment, and supporting people whose sight loss has forced them to make a career change.

Our relationships with national and local employers have enabled us to raise awareness about employing blind and partially sighted people.

Our experience of helping service users find the right job, become self employed or set up their own business ensures that we understand the range of employment choices available. We are able to help blind and partially sighted people make the right choices and to have happy and productive careers.

We run regular pre-employment courses to ensure that people are aware of the skills they need and the range of support that is available.

Children, young people and families
We support children and young people to enjoy full and active lives through access to information, education, leisure and sporting opportunities - ensuring they are as equipped as possible for adult life and the world of work.

Counselling Service
Trained counsellors offer a free counselling service to those living, working or studying in Bristol or South Gloucestershire who are affected by sight loss.

Rehabilitation
We recognise that early intervention enables people to achieve independence and improve their quality of life by regaining their independent living skills, orientation, mobility and communication. We provide this service for adults who live within Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

Resource Centre
Bristol has a resource centre which provides an excellent opportunity for blind and partially sighted people to get advice, find information about local services and try out or buy equipment, such as talking clocks, watches, kitchen aids, magnifiers and large button telephones.

There are many social groups and support groups who meet at our centre. For more information please call the reception desk.

Volunteering
Right now we can only reach 1 in 3 people who need our help most. Volunteer for Action for Blind People’s team in Bristol and help us reach them all. Training and support will be provided to all our RNIB Group Volunteers.
