What does your organisation do?
We are a Co-operative of 9 Trainee Blacksmiths who operate under the direction of our College Lecturer. We are all currently studying Blacksmithing at Norton-Radstock College. We further learn the skills of our trade through undertaking actual commissions in a live market. We have formed an Umbrella Co-operative to hold the assets of our Co-operative Enterprise. Each Member utilises these assets to undertake project work which has been won from the marketplace. Our workplace training provides each of us with the skills needed to actively succeed in the real world. This will enable us to gain a thorough working knowledge of our trade before moving on and setting up our own businesses. As part of our Co-operative Mission we also run free short courses in Blacksmithing for local schools, disabled groups and the unemployed.
