On 17th October the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) launched its Place Based Social Action (PBSA) Fund which is a joint £4.5m programme also involving the Big Lottery Fund. The aim of the fund is to:

Grants are available to support schools and registered charities that wish to undertake educational work with children and young people in disadvantaged areas. The British & Foreign Schools Society (BFSS) normally makes grants for educational projects totaling about £600,000 in any one year. The majority (85% of grants) are made to charities and educational bodies (with charitable status). Schools wishing to apply need to have either charitable status or "exempt charity" status.

Maximum grant awarded:
The average size of grant awarded is £500. Applications for grants of up to £2,000 will be accepted. In exceptional circumstances the panel may choose to award a larger amount.

What is the Stoke Park Group Friend’s Fund?
The Stoke Park Group Friend’s Fund is intended to continue the charitable activities previously performed by the League of Friends of the Stoke Park Group.

Grants are available for existing partnerships across England who have identified or are already working together to address a social challenge or local priority in their area.

Fund Value: £4,500,000

This is a three-phase programme which will run until 2025.

Bristol Ageing Better (BAB) has committed £880,000 to commission exciting new initiatives that help older people in the city enjoy a fulfilling later life. 
The money will fund nine projects which focus on reducing social isolation by improving wellbeing, and empowering older people. These include therapy-based support and activities, food and nutrition projects and intergenerational work.


The King's Fund has produced a handy guide to Commissioning, aimed at those working in health and social care. The guide starts at beginner level, and moves into more complex areas of commissioning.

Youth Social Action grants programme for the West of England

The Originators fund is designed to offer £500 - £5000 of funding to individuals, un-constituted groups or organisations who plan to deliver arts, culture and creativity led projects that take place in Bristol within one year.
