The 2020 project was just about to launch two new workstreams as the lockdown descended. A few weeks into the response, it now feels as though we might be ready to start looking further ahead.

Instead of just planning to carry on with the two workstreams previously planned (a social investment fast track and a sustainable business planning stream) it seems to makes sense to take stock first. We know some 2020 organisations have thrown themselves into the emergency response; some are running skeleton operations; some are keen to get back to business development.

The government has refused opposition demands for additional funding for charities.

In parliament yesterday, Oliver Dowden MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport was asked by shadow DCMS minister, Jo Stevenson MP to commit further funding for the sector.

He said that the government would “do everything that it can to support charities”, but would not commit to additional funding.

We are cautiously optimistic following the UK government’s announcement of £750m worth of aid to charities as part of its response to coronavirus, including £370m allocated to small and medium-sized charities.

Whilst it is unclear how the money will be distributed, this is hopefully the first stage of government relief efforts to support the VCSE sector.

Here’s what we know so far:

Crisis has established an emergency grants fund to support local groups who are financially affected by additional demands on their resources and who have expanded their provision to meet the current needs of those experiencing homelessness across the UK.

Coronavirus has had a local, national and global impact, and we know that many of Bristol's community groups and organisations are balancing increased demand for services with workforce challenges, from self-isolation and illness to adjusting to online working.

Now more so than ever, Voscur aims to support the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector as much as possible, and that includes being aware of financial struggles.

18 March, 2020

Grants of up to £5,000 are available from today to support local activities that are helping communities affected by the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. Quartet Community Foundation will offer local charitable and community organisations emergency funding to support emerging challenges faced within local communities as a result of the continuing threat of coronavirus.
