The Lloyds Bank Foundation for England & Wales has announced a new funding strategy. “Reaching Further”, underlines the Foundation’s commitment to partnering with small and local charities to help people overcome complex social issues and rebuild their lives over the next five years. The strategy includes a pledge to make more unrestricted grants over longer terms to more small charities.

Small charities and community groups are being offered the chance to apply for one of 400 grants of £500 to help them to deliver engaging physical activities, which help to overcome barriers to participation. The cash can be used to help support the general costs involved in running new or existing activities and could cover, for example, facilities hire or kit and equipment.

Funding priorities
The overall focus is on developing and promoting sustainable, low-carbon alternatives to the current consumerist and growth-based paradigm.  The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust will support a range of actions to achieve these aims, recognising this might include defending current policies, frameworks and regulations.

The National Churches Trust's maintenance grant programme is a pilot programme, in partnership with the Pilgrim Trust, offering awards of between £500 and £3,000 to encourage churches to act on small, urgent maintenance issues and repairs to church buildings, as identified in a recent Quinquennial Inspection Report, condition survey or report by a gutter management contractor, or MaintenanceBooker Maintenance Plus Survey report (find out more here), and costed between £1,000 and £10,000.

Greggs Environmental Grant fund is dedicated to improving the local environment - whether that means turning a piece of wasteland into a garden or organising litter picking days on the beach. They fund projects that improve the physical environment in a way that also benefits the wider community.  Grants are for up to £2,000 and concentrate on helping existing not for profit organisations to deliver new projects.Organisations may only apply once per calendar year for this grant.

The Froebel Trust is committed to promoting the principles developed by Friedrich Froebel. Grants are available under their "Innovation" strand to support the application of Froebelian principles in new ways and environments in order to support children to play expressively and creatively.

The H.B. Allen Charitable Trust is a general Grant-maker with no restrictions on the areas, or kinds of projects, they can support. The Trustees are happy to provide core funding as well as project support, but are unlikely to fund new organisations. There's no typical grant size.

Trusthouse Charitable Foundation awards grants to small, well-established organisations in the UK who address local issues in areas of extreme urban deprivation, or in remote and fragile rural communities.

They have been closed for applications, but from 1st June you will be able to apply under two new programmes:

Major Grants

Open to any charitable, not-for-profit and voluntary organisation in the UK with a total annual income under £500,000

Grants of up to £20,000 a year for up to three years for core costs, salaries, project costs
