Bristol City Council is currently reviewing its Council Tax Reduction (CTR) scheme for 2018/19 and is seeking local people’s views on the issue.

Council Tax Reduction (CTR) is a discount scheme that is operated by all English councils to support households who have a low income with the cost of their council tax. It was introduced following the abolition of Council Tax Benefit (CTB) in 2013. The discount is calculated according to income and household circumstances and applied as a reduction to council tax bills.

Any changes to the scheme will affect the amount of support working age households can get. Pensioners are protected from any changes to the scheme under nationally prescribed regulations.

Bristol City Council will be consulting on three options that will require working age households to make a payment towards their council tax. Your views will be considered in developing a final scheme for 2018/19. Any changes to the scheme must be agreed by full Council before 31 January 2018.

To have your say on the future of CTR, click here and complete the online form before 24 September 2017. If you would like information on the consultation in another format, please call 0117 922 2848 or e-mail consultation@bristol.gov.uk.
