The Avon and Somerset Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC), Sue Mountstevens, wishes to establish a Scrutiny of Police Powers Panel to act as a ‘critical friend’ to the PCC and to Avon & Somerset Constabulary. The panel will provide feedback on the use of police powers and the PCC is looking for independent local people to help her monitor areas such as stop and search, Taser and use of force by the police.
The PCC feels it is important that not only are the public’s views represented in policing, but that local people trust and have confidence in their police service; she believes this new Panel will help in delivering this.
Sue Mountstevens is keen that the panel represents and reflects the communities within the Avon and Somerset Policing area so please circulate this information to your colleagues and service users.
The closing date for applications is the 12 April 2017. For further information or to download an application pack please visit http://www.avonandsomerset-pcc.gov.uk/Openness/Scrutiny/Scrutiny-of-the-use-of-Police-Powers.aspx or contact the Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner on 01275 816377.
