Pitch perfect – over £70k awarded at unique South Bristol funding event
What a great time we had at Pitch your Project! Eleven brave South Bristol groups met at Ashton Gate Stadium to pitch for grants of up to £10k from The Big Lottery Fund, with the help of their supporters and members of the South Bristol community.
I can’t really express just how great the pitches were - we laughed, we cried, we cheered as we grew prouder and prouder of the amazing work that South Bristol organisations do for their community. The event also showcased the strong partnerships and deep-rooted support that organisations and members of the communities represented offer one another.
The pitches were so good that the four groups who didn’t attract enough votes on the night have since been awarded grants in recognition of their value to the community. So, everyone’s a winner, not least the South Bristol residents who will be able to access so many new and important services and opportunities.
In the months to come you’ll be seeing a community festival at Filwood Community Centre, apple-juice making at Redcatch Community Garden, a community musical celebrating the University of Withywood and some great singing from local choirs! These will be the most visible outcomes, but in the background there will also be help for young disabled people to develop their style, help for families struggling with benefit claims, holiday programmes for vulnerable children and opportunities for isolated people with mental health issues to take part in fun activities and meet people. And all from one nights work!
Many thanks and huge congratulations to all our fabulous pitchers; HHEAG, Redcatch Community Garden, Northern Slopes Initiative, Way out West, Unique Voice, Re:Work, Styleability, Knowle West Health Park, Hartcliffe and Withywood Community Choir, Ashton Vale Together and Community in Partnership Knowle West. Also thanks to our colleagues at The Big Lottery for being great partners - we hope you’ll be back soon to talk about Pitch your Project 2!
And don’t forget, if you’d like to apply for up to £10,000 to help build your community, you don’t have to wait - just follow this link to find out more about Awards for All lottery funding.
