Do you know a BAME or equality group that would benefit from a leadership programme?

Stepping Up is all about increasing diversity in leadership across the South West’s public, private and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sectors. It works alongside your current job, supported by your employer, and is a great opportunity to boost your professional development.
You’ll complete a portfolio of work that includes:

  • Six academic modules led by expert speakers and facilitators.
  • Action learning sets tailored to your equality group’s needs.
  • A project or assignment looking beyond your organisation.
  • Six sessions with a mentor over email, Skype, or face-to-face.
  • Workshops on career management.

The programme starts on 18 March 2020, and there isn’t long left to apply. So far, 140 people have taken part and become diverse leaders; the aim is to have 400 diverse leaders by 2023.

To be eligible, you need to be from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) or equalities-related group, with some experience of community leadership. You will be educated to A-Level standard (sixth form), or equivalent (such as Level 3 BTEC; advanced level GNVQ). It helps if you have a professional qualification, such as a degree, in your area of work.

Ideally you are working as a team leader or at middle management in your job, or you have the potential to work at this level, and you could step up to a senior role in the next few years.

Your employer may want to add other criteria. Please tell your employer you are applying for the programme, so they are aware; employers must pay towards course fees from their learning and development budgets, but bursaries are available to non-profit organisations and anyone self-employed or self-funded.

The application process involves sending your CV (maximum three pages) and a supporting statement about why you want to apply to the programme and the difference it could make to your career (maximum 300 words).

Click here to apply. Applications close on Friday 24 January 2020, with interviews taking place on the week commencing Monday 24 February 2020.
