Tampon Tax Fund open for bids
Charities are being encouraged to bid for £15 million in funding that has been made available through the Tampon Tax Fund.
The fund will be available to charities working with vulnerable women and girls and each successful project will receive at least £1 million in funding.
All grants from this round will be offered to charities for two year projects.
The fund was launched in 2015 and so far £47 million has been allocated to more than 70 charities.
The recently appointed Minister for Sport and Civil Society, Mims Davies, said: “It is vital that disadvantaged women and girls and those who face violence or homelessness are given the help they need to rebuild their lives and reach their full potential.”
“This fund is already having a resoundingly positive impact across our country and I am delighted that thousands more women and girls will be helped as a result of this round of funding.”
The fund has drawn criticism due to its range of restrictive limitations which some have said is a cynical attempt by the government to generate positive news coverage and to solve its own problems and not those of women in need.
Money from the fund cannot be spent on:
- Campaigning, advocacy and awareness raising
- Core costs
- Repeating a previously funded project that is already working
The deadline for applications is 20 January 2019. For more information, visit: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/tampon-tax-fund-application-form-2019-2020-funding-round
