The West of England has seen the strongest economic recovery outside London, according to a new report by think-tank Resolution Foundation, which suggests it has weathered the financial crisis better than an anywhere outside the capital.
The report – A Western Union – comes less than 100 days before voters in our region prepare to elect a regional mayor. The report says economic output in the West of England is at a record high – around seven per cent higher than its pre-crisis peak – while the output in most major British cities is yet to return to pre-crisis levels.
However, counter to this success, rising house prices and rents are eating into the gains made in living standards - there is clearly still work to be done to ensure that all of our communities can benefit from this economic success.
