Counselling Co-ordinator (Maternity Cover)

We are seeking a Counselling Coordinator (Maternity Cover) to support our Counselling Manager and Service Delivery Administration team in the effective delivery of our trauma informed counselling services to survivors (adults and young people aged 13+) of rape and sexual abuse across Avon and Somerset.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of passionate and skilled professionals within an established and dynamic organisation.

About you

You will be passionate about supporting people who have experienced sexual violence and will have experience of working in a trauma informed environment. You will be skilled at assessing clients’ needs and allocating them to appropriate support.

You may already have some  experience of managing staff, or you will have the skills and personal qualities to ensure that our counsellors are supported to deliver a professional and effective service to clients. You will need an understanding of the impact of vicarious trauma.

You will have excellent organisational and time-management skills that will ensure the delivery of a well-co-ordinated and professional counselling service across our multiple hubs and spokes.

SARSAS exists to relieve the trauma and distress and help rebuild the lives of survivors who live in Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and BANES, who have experienced any form of sexual violence, at any point in their lives.

SARSAS also campaigns and raises awareness about rape and sexual violence to change the narrative about sexual violence and to enable survivors’ voices to be heard. Partnership work with a range of agencies locally and nationally is a priority to enable social change.

SARSAS works to feminist principles: this underpins both what our service is and how it is run. Our work is guided by a trauma-informed approach which understands how traumatic experiences can impact on survivors and keeps an awareness of their effects at the forefront of our approach to support.

SARSAS values diversity and welcomes applicants from all sections of the community. We are actively encouraging applicants with a protected characteristic such as BAME women, who are currently under-represented at SARSAS, to join our team.

*The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and open to women only (exempt under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1).
