Abbeyfield Bristol and Keynsham Society is a not-for-profit charity, providing supported retirement housing for independent older people at affordable, fully-inclusive rates, and offering the very highest standards of accommodation, comfort, security, companionship and support.
How you can help
It’s a great time to be part of Abbeyfield Bristol and Keynsham Society – the coronavirus pandemic has been an extremely challenging time for us, and has made us examine every aspect of our operations.
This really is an exciting period of development for us. We have four fantastic houses in and around Bristol, with a potential extensive refurbishment and re-modelling project in the pipeline. It’s a perfect time to join us…..
We’re recruiting now for new members with expertise, enthusiasm and energy to join our Board of passionate, forward-looking and dedicated volunteer Trustees.
As a Trustee, you’ll be involved from the very start in the commercial and strategic decision-making about how our Society moves forwards, in exploring the possibilities for new projects, in working to create our vision and to shape the future of our Society.
Our houses and our residents
We have four houses offering supported retirement living in lovely surroundings in and around Bristol – in Redland, Henleaze, Hanham and Keynsham.
Residents are encouraged to live as independently as possible, for as long as possible, and they enjoy a great balance of privacy and involvement in the life of the house, free from the stresses and strains of maintaining a property, the worries of coping alone, and the loneliness of isolation. New friendships, experiences and interests bring a new lease of life to our residents, and give them a fresh perspective at what can be a very vulnerable stage of their lives.
Our residents’ well-being lies at the very heart of everything we do - we consult with them and listen to them carefully, to ensure we are delivering effectively and fulfilling our promise to provide them with the very best possible quality of life.
Roles and responsibilities
‘Good governance is a vital part of how organisations operate and are held accountable’ (Charity Commission).
As an Abbeyfield Bristol and Keynsham Society Trustee, your role will be pivotal in our development.
The Board has ultimate responsibility for:
As a Trustee, you will be required to attend quarterly Board meetings. In addition to this, we have a management sub-committee which holds monthly meetings, focusing on finance, operations and discrete projects, and which reports back to the wider body of Trustees. We aim to schedule meetings at a time that’s convenient for those in employment.
Please note that this is a voluntary role; reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
What we’re looking for
Charity experience, with expertise in the support of older people, social care and housing, property development, marketing, charitable law and human resources will be particularly welcomed, but we would be very interested in speaking to anyone with experience in other areas, who can offer drive, enthusiasm and commitment to our Society.
