Job Role: Prison Resettlement Outreach Worker
Salary: £22,440- £23,812
Hours: 37.5/ week
Contract type: Permanent
The successful candidate will be supporting prison-leavers who had previously been sleeping rough in B&NES to help break the cycle of homelessness and reoffending. The focus of this role is to support rough sleepers who are imprisoned, by staying in contact during their sentence, identifying and arranging appropriate accommodation in advance of their release date. The Prison Resettlement Outreach Worker will work as an integral part of the Outreach team, contacting new, repeat and entrenched rough sleepers in Bath, implementing a locally agreed approach to No Second Night Out.
To undertake assertive outreach and hot spot visits across the locality area including during unsocial hours, maintaining a regular street presence
Carry out needs assessments with identified offenders and non-offending rough sleepers to secure access to services which are suitable for their immediate needs, and make appropriate referrals in partnership with them to establish a sustainable life away from the streets as quickly as possible
To work in close partnership with the local authorities, police, prison, emergency accommodation providers and wider partner agencies to maximise positive outcomes for service users
To carry out risk assessments and complete Housing Benefit forms for rough sleepers moving into designated accommodation services
To work in close partnership with other outreach and floating support services, working as a ‘one team’
Assertive outreach will involve working early, late and day shifts, including some weekends
To respond quickly to referrals of rough sleepers (made through the ‘report a rough sleeper’ website, telephone hotline and other sources) record and feedback to referrers as appropriate
Qualifications / Requirements:
Work flexibly towards creative solutions in a person-centred way with individuals who may have seemingly intractable problems
Build effective relationships with clients and services in order to develop pathways to enable clients to make positive changes
Set boundaries, challenge appropriately and manage conflict constructively
Outreach or community-based work, multi-agency working experience
Working with dual diagnosis clients
Assessment of needs and case management
Driver's license and access to car for business purposes
