Our organisation - WECIL (West of England Centre for Inclusive Living) is the largest organisation
run and controlled by Disabled people in the region. We provide a wide range of services to Disabled
children and adults, including advice, Independent Living support, befriending, peer support, and
children and young people’s services. We also provide advice and support to businesses through
Disability.Inc. See our website for more information https://wecil.co.uk
We believe that Disabled children and adults are entitled to the same rights, choice and control over
their lives as non-disabled people, and that they must be fully included in all aspects of society and
have influence over the issues that affect them.
About the role - We are looking for a Treasurer, who is also a Disabled person, and can bring their
lived experience to the Board of Trustees (at least 75% of our Board must be Disabled people).
We have charitable status and are a Company Limited by Guarantee, so experience of financial
management and oversight is essential, and a good understanding of the charity and voluntary sector
would be useful.
You will be expected to attend Board meetings every two months, and to Chair the Finance Sub
Committee which meets quarterly, to ensure they are making robust financial decision, and to liaise
with the Chief Executive, Finance Manager and Auditor to ensure financial policies and procedures
We would be really happy for you to visit WECIL initially to talk to us informally and find out more
about the organisation and this role.
We intend to have as diverse a Board as possible, to ensure creative and effective decision making,
and particularly welcome applications from Disabled people from the range of backgrounds which are
currently under-represented in WECIL, such as Black and Minoritised people.
The role is unpaid, but we offer training and personal development opportunities, as well as the
opportunity to contribute to improving the lives of Disabled people in the region. All out of pocket
expenses are reimbursed.
How to apply - If you are interested in the role, please see the Role Description and Specification on
our website https://wecil.co.uk/volunteering. Please contact Kath Tobin by email on firstname.lastname@example.org by the end of August to express an
interest, as we are hoping to be able to elect all new Trustees at our AGM in October.
