What is the Beacon Café?

The Beacon café is a community café in Hanham which operates on a ‘pay as you can’ basis. Our aim at The Beacon Café is to be a space where people can build meaningful connections, learn and share new skills and have access to fresh, wholesome food. We don’t want cost to be a barrier to people accessing the benefits of this community space  therefore we operate on a ‘pay as you can basis’. The idea is that those who can afford to pay will do so knowing that they are contributing to something positive whilst those who can’t afford to pay full price will still be able to benefit.

How can I get involved?

We are looking for volunteers to help with all areas of running the café and we’d love to hear from anyone with an enthusiasm to get involved.  

We are particularly keen to hear from people that love to cook or are motivated to develop their skills in the kitchen.  We’d also love to hear from people who enjoy making coffees or are excited to develop skills as a Barista!

However, there’s no expectation for volunteers to have any previous skills or experience in these areas.  We are looking for people who are enthusiastic and who are willing to develop within the role.

Roles include:

Front of house- Taking orders, serving food and drink, preparing hot drinks, welcoming customers, cleaning.

Kitchen – cooking, food preparation, menu planning, baking, washing up.  

Community Programme- Facilitating or supporting community groups using the space. If you have an idea of a group you’d like to run or would like to see happening in the space then we’d love to hear from you.

The Cafe is currently open every Thurs, Fri 9.00- 3.00pm and Sat 9.00- 2.00pm. We are therefore looking for volunteers to help out during these times. However, we are hoping to open on additional days in the near future so do still get in touch if your availability doesn’t fit with the current open days.
