The role of the PCC is to scrutinise, review and improve police practices. Part of this involves working with members of the public to provide an independent view as part of one of four scrutiny panels.
Volunteers will undertake custody visits with other Independent Custody Visitors, checking on the conditions in which a detainee is detained in custody, their Rights, entitlements and welfare with reference to the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, 1984 (PACE) code of practice (Code) C (regarding Custody).
Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) can volunteer to do as many visits as they would like to offer but there has to be a minimum of one custody visit per month.
