Salary: £24,982 per annum pro rota

Hours: 14 hours a week including up to 2 evening shifts (6:45pm – 11:15pm), some weekends and flexibility to cover volunteer support and supervision.

Location: Bristol Mind Offices and blended remote working

Bristol Mind are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and self-motivated individual to join our ever-growing team! Due to recent growth, we are looking for a new Assistant Coordinator to help manage our Mindline service. This is an exciting opportunity to support us to provide crucial mental health support in Bristol.

The role:

You will cover the helpline on a rota basis for 1 or 2 evenings per week alongside our team of skilled volunteers. This includes answering calls, using active listening skills to provide mental health and emotional support to members of the public who phone the helpline anonymously. You will be managing up to three volunteers on the shift, acting as their safeguarding lead.

Away from the shift, you will also provide supervision for volunteers, and assist the Mindline Coordinator in ensuring the rota and shifts are covered. You will also be supporting the training of new volunteers.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use active listening skills to emotionally support callers, some of whom may be in distress or mentally unwell.
  • Work with Mindline’s safeguarding procedures and policies to ensure the safety of vulnerable adults who call the line.
  • Supporting volunteers by working alongside them to provide shift management and support as required. Including being the safeguarding lead on those shifts.
  • Provide supervision by phone to volunteers, a day or two after their shifts.
  • Assist the Mindline Coordinator in continuing professional development of all Mindline volunteers.
  • Assist the Mindline Coordinator to deliver the core Mindline training programme for new volunteers as and when required.
  • Support volunteers to ensure the quality and reliability of the service as well as the wellbeing of volunteers.
  • Assist in ensuring the helpline’s rota and shifts are covered.
  • Ensure supervision records and safeguarding forms are completed and accurate.
  • Attend six- weekly evening volunteer team meetings, including CPD sessions

 

Person Specification

Knowledge and experience

  • Experience working or volunteering on a helpline supporting people’s mental health and/or emotional well being
  • Experience of supporting and managing volunteers.
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, equal opportunities as applied to the provision and delivery of services.
  • An understanding of how engagement in volunteering can aid an individuals recovery from mental distress

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Competency to manage and action safeguarding concerns
  • Ability to organise own work and carry it out
  • Competent IT skills including, Word, Excel, Sharepoint, Teams, Outlook
