Details of Role:

Second Step is a leading Mental Health charity in the Southwest offering housing, support and hope to thousands of people with mental health and other related support needs.  We aim to support people’s recovery and wellbeing to achieve their hopes and ambitions. Second Step operates in BANES, Bristol, Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. This role will work across our Supported Housing services in Bristol, subject to review and change.

Our goal is to inspire hope and support change for every person and community we work with.  We believe with the right support, everyone can make their future their own.

Our Supported Housing Support service supports people, often facing multiple disadvantage, who live in our various supported housing properties across Bristol.  We work in a psychologically, trauma and adversity (PAT) informed way, and draw on recovery, strength-based and restorative approaches.  Support staff provide tailored support and interventions, working with service users to enable them to remain safe, overcome barriers, consider options, develop skills, achieve their goals and move to more permanent and/or appropriate accommodation, helping to prevent repeat homelessness.

Experience of working with people with multiple needs (e.g. homelessness, mental health or drugs/alcohol dependency) is essential, as is having the skills and resilience to work collaboratively with people whose behaviours can challenge systems and professionals. Ideally, you will have at least one years’ experience of working with people with complex needs in a social housing or similar field.

You will carry a caseload and be responsible for delivering high quality, tailored, supportive interventions; including creating clear safety and inclusion plans and support plans with service users you support, building trust as part of your relational journey.

You will receive comprehensive training, regular supervision, debrief spaces and team reflective practice.

The role involves travelling around the Bristol area.  Although a full licence and access to a motor vehicle may be an advantage, we also encourage applications from people who use other forms of transport, including bicycles and public transport.

Closing date:             Wednesday 29th March 2023 Midnight

Interview dates(s)     tbc

The ability to travel to several appointments daily (including in rural areas with limited/ unreliable public transport) is essential
