The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death highlighted the need for health and social care staff to have better skills, knowledge and understanding of the needs for autistic people and those with a learning disability.
This is an amazing opportunity to influence how care is delivered by providing health and social care staff with the knowledge and skills they need to make a difference.
In July 2022, the Health and Care Act introduced a requirement for health and social care employees to receive training on learning disabilities and autism with the Oliver McGowan training being the preferred route. BNSSG ICB will be rolling out this training to healthcare providers in September 2023 and health colleagues will be required to book onto sessions.
