Help us find readers!

We recruit, train and support volunteers to give one-to-one tuition to adults who struggle to read. The referrals networker has a key role in finding and recruiting these readers.

Referrals Networker Role Description

  1. To ensure that there are sufficient readers being referred to the group by creating links with local organisations such as Job Centres, social services and many others who may be able to refer potential readers to the group.
  1. To be a management team member / trustee.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the rest of the management team to establish which organisations have already been contacted and build on that initial work.
  • Create a record of organisations and agencies who are likely to come into contact with those who don’t read and the dates you are in touch with them.
  • Contact these organisations regularly to provide information about what your group offers and identify how they can best inform their personnel to make referrals.
  • Keep your local group informed about your activity and identify how many of your contacts refer new Readers.  Find out what further efforts may be necessary.

Personal qualities and experience

  • Good communication and people skills.
  • Experience of networking and the confidence to contact local organisations.

Commitment to the role

The post holder may share this role with others in the team but will take the lead. The commitment will vary according to how many others are involved, but a minimum of 2 hours a week should be set aside. Management Team members are required to attend monthly/regular Management Team meetings (currently on Zoom due to Corona Virus restrictions).

Commitment from Read Easy

We will provide an induction into this role and provide all the documentation and information needed. This includes a Referrals Networker’s Information Pack and a Management Team Handbook

Ongoing support is provided by the Team Leader, by the Regional Adviser and by Head Office as and when required. Occasional attendance at Regional Forums may be requested and an invitation will be given to attend the Annual Conference.
