At our Dementia Meeting Centre in Bristol, we deliver support and activity sessions for people living with dementia and their care partners.

Purpose of the role

  • To support meeting centre members with dementia and their carers to enjoy sessions
  • To help develop a warm and friendly meeting centre community

What you will be doing

  • Welcoming members
  • Helping staff set up and carry out activities
  • Offering a friendly face and listening ear
  • Making and serving refreshments
  • Supporting people on trips and at events
  • Giving people information about other services
  • Helping clear away after sessions

Location and times

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays - mornings or afternoons

Our expectations

  • You feel comfortable being with older people, some of whom have mild to moderate dementia
  • You are willing to learn about dementia
  • You will attend Alive’s dementia training and other relevant training
  • You will let the Meeting Centre Manager know beforehand if you are not able to attend the session
  • You agree to an enhanced DBS check

  • Learning more about supporting people with dementia and their carers - experiencing a person-centred approach to providing meaningful activities
  • First hand experience of volunteering within Social Care within the social model of disability
  • A reference, if desired
  • Work experience - working alongside staff who are trained within the dementia support field
  • Paid travel expenses (up to 10£ / day)
