Under the general supervision of the Wickwar Youth Centre Management Committee (WYCMC), to lead a small team of staff through positive activities within the context of social education to work with local young people. This post holder is an employee of Southern Brooks Community Partnerships (SBCP) and is seconded to WYCMC. Specific youth work support for the post holder is purchased by WYCMC from SBCP.

The candidate should preferably be available to start on Wednesday 3 January 2018

This post is permanent, subject to funding.

1. JOB PURPOSE Under the general supervision of the Wickwar Youth Centre Management Committee (WYCMC), to lead a small team of staff through positive activities within the context of social education to work with local young people. This post holder is an employee of Southern Brooks Community Partnerships (SBCP) and is seconded to WYCMC. Specific youth work support for the post holder is purchased by WYCMC from SBCP.

2. MAIN DUTIES (a) To be responsible for the day-to-day running of a programme of activities, services and facilities. (b) To promote and encourage participation and the empowerment of young people. (c) To advocate for young people whenever it is not possible for them to speak for themselves. (d) To promote good equal opportunities practices and to take positive steps to counter discrimination however and wherever it occurs. (e) To take responsibility for the management of the Centre during working sessions and to advise the WYCMC on matters relating to the maintenance and use of the premises. (f) To collect all monies given to the Centre by the young people through fund raising activities and from subs, and pass weekly to the Chair of the WYCMC or the Treasurer. (g) To manage a small float for the tuck sold in the Centre and restock as required. (h) To maintain a register of members and contact details, and to operate a telephone tree in the event of unexpected closure. (i) To attend meetings and prepare reports as required by the Management Group. (j) On Junior sessions, to ensure the safe discharge of the young people at the end of the session. (k) To supervise and manage staff and volunteers during the working session.

3. GENERAL SUPERVISION AND SUPPORT (a) General supervision and support will be provided by the WYCMC, which also purchases specific youth work support from SBCP for the post holder. (b) The post holder supervises Assistant Youth Workers and Volunteers.

4. PROBLEMS AND DECISIONS (a) Knowing when to refer matters to the WYCMC for advice and guidance.

5. GENERAL This job description only contains the main duties relating to this post and does not describe in detail all the duties required to carry them out and there will be an expectation that the post holder will carry out other duties that reasonably fall within the general nature of the level of responsibility of the post.

6. SPECIAL NOTES AND CONDITIONS (a) The post holder will be expected to work or be available outside normal office hours and to give and receive training, which may require nights away from home. (b) This post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. All offences will be considered. Wickwar Youth Centre

PERSON SPECIFICATION JOB TITLE: YOUTH WORKER-IN-CHARGE

ESSENTIAL

• Qualified to Level 3 in Youth Work or willing to undertake the training to this level

• Experience of working with young people

• Able to work without direct and immediate supervision

• Able to organise a programme

• Able to supervise staff and volunteers

• Able to write reports and maintain records and keep clear accounts

• Commitment to the development, understanding and implementing of Equal Opportunities

• Able to work unsocial hours
