At Aid Box Community's ‘Free Shop’ in Bristol, we make a difference to the daily lives of refugees and asylum seekers by providing free essential living items, along with a safe and warm welcoming space.
This volunteer role provides an opportunity for you to support us front of house. Welcome hosts are key to the running of the Free Shop; welcoming the service users and making their experience a pleasurable one; keeping it stocked, tidy and organised.
4 ½ hours per week on one of the following days:
Tuesdays 10.45 – 3.15pm
Wednesdays 10.45 – 3.15pm
Thursdays 10.45 – 3.15pm
*6 Months Commitment necessary*
Welcoming service users
Registering shop users in and out
Showing shop users around and ensuring that they find what they need
Support and guide less regular volunteers
Sign-posting Service Users to other organisations
Keeping shelves stocked and organised.
Keeping the hub clean and tidy
Help with Admin as required
Updating signage in the hub
Adhere to Safeguarding and health and safety policies
Sorting aid when needed (in collaboration with Aid Team)
We’d like you to:
Be passionate about supporting refugees and asylum seekers
Be sensitive to the situations of our service users
Be flexible with a willingness to get stuck in
Enjoy being part of a small team
Be a positive, committed and enthusiastic team player
Have good organisational and communication skills
Provide full induction training before you commence the role
Provide training in the following: Safeguarding, Asylum in the UK, Trauma Awareness, Cultural awareness.
2 references will be required
Welcome Hosts will need to be DBS checked at a cost of £15. This will be carried out soon after your induction.
