We are a Community Interest Company. We are a theatre company and run a community arts centre called Creative Workspace in Withywood, South Bristol. We hire the space to theatre companies and profits from this are returned to run creative workshops, courses and events for the immediate community.
Currently we have two directors and have a vacancy for a third director. We are looking for someone with a business/corporate background can bring business planning and/or accountancy skills to support us as we develop and grow. We are also eligible for many grants both in the public and private sector and someone with experience in budgets would also be of great use to us. We are looking for someone who could possibly be seconded to us one day a month (or equivalent) from their existing paid employment, perhaps as part of a corporate social responsibility programme. We are very flexible about how this day could be worked (a mix of remote and on-site working at our community arts centre in Withywood). We meet with our board of trustees on a quarterly basis in the evening for 90 minutes and would require attendance at these meetings also. The next trustee meeting is scheduled for mid February 2019.
We hope to find someone who has an keen interest in bringing the creative and performing arts to all people, not just those who can afford to pay for it, and who has an interest either personally or professionally in supporting disadvantaged communities in this way.
We can offer a chance for you to make a big difference to a very disadvantaged community. You'll have the chance to see the positive impact you're having on people's lives directly. We work very closely with the BS13 community in South Bristol, offering creative opportunities for everyone from families with preschool children, primary and secondary school students, adults with learning disabilities, single parents and isolated older people. Since opening Creative Workspace in May 2017 we have been very well supported by the local community who want to see us continue and grow. But we need your help to do this!
We have a lot of exciting new projects starting in Jan 2019 as we have recently been awarded an Arts Council England project grant, and are also supported until 2020 by Bristol City Council Cultural Investment Programme. We hope that our new director will be in place by the end of January 2019.
Please contact our artistic director Gill Simmons by email, outlining why this position appeals to you and what skills you could bring to our board.
