Details of Role: 

Would you like to support children aged 8 - 12 on a huge range of exciting activity days in and around Bristol, such as We The Curious, indoor climbing, Bristol Museum, M-Shed, Bristol Zoo and many more. We need inspiring adults to help these children achieve and develop key life skills. 

The Group Leaders, along with the volunteers will meet the children at the pick-up point (usually school gates) and accompany them by minibus to the planned activities. Usually there will be two main activities within each day. At the end of the day you will return with the children to the assigned collection point. 

Trip Volunteer responsibilities: 

Encourage participation from all of the children and support them to get the most out of the programme and achieve the ‘soft skills’ elements of the programme

Support the Group Leader’s communication of expectations and required behaviours from the children, positively managing any challenging behaviours and conflicts arising within the group

Be aware of and work within Wider World policies and procedures including (but not limited to) Behaviour, Safeguarding, Health and Safety, First Aid

Work with the Group Leader to ensure children complete the evaluations, and encourage parents/carers to provide feedback

Work as part of the Wider World team to ensure the successful outcome of the programmes for all involved

Person specification: 

Essential: energetic, enthusiastic, fun attitude; ability to engage and inspire, bring out the best in children and encourage participation; ability to deal assertively and positively with sometimes difficult behaviour / conflict; understanding of group dynamics and ability to deal positively with different personality types; ability to work as part of a team; reliability and ability to commit to a minimum of 3 days over the 7 month period; knowledge / interest in activity areas 

Desirable: experience of working with children aged 8-12; currently holds up to date safeguarding and paediatric first aid training certificates (or willing to take these)

The first three dates are Dec 21st, Jan 3rd and Jan 4th. Future dates will be in Feb, April, May and July which are yet to be confirmed.

All volunteers will be expected to apply for an enhanced DBS check before taking part in any activities.
