Goal of Position: To help older people maintain their dignity and independence by assisting in a community based day centre. Activities: • Escorting clients safely to/from minibuses • Talking with and listening to older people. • Preparing tea trolley, serving meals, clearing tables, loading/unloading dishwasher • Assisting older people with mobility in and out of chairs, walking to the toilet. • Share ideas and get involved in activities • Assist on outings when required • Adhere to the policies and practices of Age UK relating to health and safety, food hygiene and moving and handling Commitment: • Weekly commitment: Half (9.30–12.30, 12.30-3.00) or Full day (9.30-3.00) session • Length of commitment: Ongoing Volunteering Location: St Michaels’ Day Centre, St Michael’s Place, Bath - Monday, Thursday or Friday Orchard Hall, Midsomer Norton - Monday or Thursday Charlton House, Hawthorns Lane, Keynsham - Tuesday or Friday Personal Qualities & Skills required: • Good communication skills and an excellent sense of humour • Able to work on own initiative and be happy to carry out tasks without being asked • Friendly, patient and kind, and enjoys the company of older people • Ability to work as part of a team • Reliable, punctual and able to commit on a weekly basis • An interest in developing activities for older people
