Milestones Trust is a health and social care charity which supports people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and people living with dementia. The services are provided through a network of residential/nursing care homes and supported living homes throughout the Bristol and South Gloucestershire areas.
We are looking for a male volunteer that enjoys music from the 60’s and 70’s, and also an Elvis fan! We have a male service user with a learning disability who is very sociable and would really like volunteer to share his interests with, enjoy social interaction and access some live entertainment and watch tribute bands.
The volunteer would build a positive relationship with the service user and enable them to have good community relationships and take part in further community activities, which will give him something to look forward to each week. Some weeks listening to music at the home will also be optional and talking about things of interest to both the volunteer and service user.
No experience is required, but we are looking for a volunteer who is:-
• Patient and non-judgmental
• Fun with a good sense of humour
• Able to research activities and gigs going on in the community and plan with the service user
• Available once a week or fortnightly (the day and times are flexible)
The volunteer will complete a 4-6 week induction at the home to familiarise them with the service user and the volunteer role. The Home Manager will ensure the volunteer and service user are happy and comfortable within the home before supporting with external activities.
Please note due to the nature of our service user group a DBS check will be carried out.
Please get in touch if you are interested in befriending our music loving service user!
