Details of Role: 

We are looking for someone who  has availability each week to help ensure the smooth running of the library.

 

What will I be doing?

This role requires a need to be flexible and adapt to a variety of requirements. However essentially the role involves:

  • Data entry
  • Processing borrowed and returned items
  • Registering new members
  • Organising and keeping books in order and shelves tidy
  • Following up on overdue books
  • Processing donated books
  • Communication with clients face to face and by email /letter
  • liaise with Academy Administrator to ensure smooth running of library and escalate any issues where necessary

What training and support can I expect?

You will be given induction by the Academy Administrator. and the current library volunteer. You will  be able to shadow the role and will be given training and support as required.

How much time do I need to commit?

This is a fairly flexible role. Ideally half to one day a week commitment.

What skills and qualities will I need?

  • A warm and friendly approach
  • Happy to work on own
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Efficient in managing time and responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • To have an awareness of the issues that can affect people with cancer  

No specific experience or qualifications are needed to work in this role but it is helpful if you have previous experience of working in a library. It is also helpful if you have some knowledge or empathy with the complementary principles of the charity.

Experience of reading books related to cancer.
